The post-stroke hemiplegic patient: A method for evaluation of physical performance”. The Fugl-Meyer motor scale (FM)1 is widely used in clinical trials to quantify motor deficits after stroke. The FM consists of a 33-item upper extremity subscale and a 17-item lower extremity subscale. However, the 50-item FM has rarely been used in clinics because of its lengthy administra- BACKGROUND: The motor function section of the Fugl-Meyer assessment scale (FM motor scale) is a robust scale of motor ability in people after stroke, with high predictive validity for outcome. However, the FM motor scale is time-consuming. For this purpose, the Fugl-Meyer (FM) assessment scale 1 (also known as the Brunnstrom Fugl-Meyer test) is an instrument commonly administered by physical therapists (and others) in both clinical and research fields to evaluate people after stroke. The assessment, as described by Fugl-Meyer et al. (1975), is based on the theoretical hypothesis that the restoration of motor function follows a definable stepwise course such that for persons with hemiparalysis the recurrence of reflexes always precedes volitional motor action, and after initial dependence on those synergies, active motion becomes successively less dependent upon the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of sensorimotor function.

The Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) is one of the most used and recommended assessment scales of sensorimotor function in stroke. This study investigated the reliability of the scale when different therapists assessed the patient’s performance at the same test session and when the assessment was performed by the same therapist but on 2 different occasions.

The primary clinical outcome measures are Action Research Arm Test and Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale for  Fugl-Meyer Assessment-upper extremity (FMA-UE; sensory section), and tactile object identification test. In addition to Fugl-Meyer assessment biomechanical analysis of each item was performed. Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale vurderer funktionsniveau efter apopleksi.

Scoring is based on direct observation of performance. Scale items are scored on the basis of ability to complete the item using a 3-point ordinal scale where 0=cannot perform, 1=performs partially and 2=performs fully. The total possible scale score is 226. But.
